Why a Rhinoplasty?

Your face is the first thing that someone else will see. Faces are recognizable and rememberable. The nose is in the center of the face and oftentimes the most prominent facial feature. An attractive nose frames the entire face, therefore giving individuals a desirable appearance. With the nose being so noticeable, many people decide to undergo a rhinoplasty procedure to change the appearance of their nose. However, many factors need to be considered by a patient debating the procedure.

Average Cost of a Nose Job

A properly performed rhinoplasty procedure can reshape and resize the nose or fix any asymmetry. The cost of a nose job varies depending on the type of procedure that is required. In some cases, just the tip of the nose needs to be reconstructed which costs on average $5,000. However, if major reconstruction is necessary or cartilage grafts are needed then the procedure could cost upwards of $8,000.

Though many cosmetic procedures are paid out-of-pocket, a rhinoplasty may be covered by insurance. If a nose job is performed to improve breathing function then the procedure may be considered reconstructive for health purposes. If a surgeon deems that the nose is the cause of a breathing impairment then the surgeon will give a detailed examination and report this back to the patient’s insurance provider.

Is a Rhinoplasty For You?

Like many other cosmetic procedures, it is recommended that the patient is in good physical health and has realistic expectations for the end result. Additionally, an ideal candidate for a nose job should have complete facial growth; in other terms, the bones and facial features should be done developing.

A patient must be put under anesthesia during a rhinoplasty procedure. An incision may be made either inside of the nose or across the columella, the strip of tissue between the nostrils. In order for the nose to be reshaped the skin that covers the nasal bones and cartilages must be raised to allow the surgeon access.

Depending on the procedure required, the surgeon will reshape and restructure the nose and fix any deviation. A rhinoplasty has a longer recovery time than other procedures which requires patience on the patient’s end. Following the post-care procedure steps is necessary in order to obtain the desired results.
